The opening threshold is lowered, and the application scenarios are constantly enriched——

Digital RMB is becoming more and more popular

Recently, the digital RMB (pilot version) APP has been on the shelves in Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and other application markets. Digital RMB "10 + 1" pilot areas include Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiong'an, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Changsha, Xi'an, Qingdao, Dalian and scenarios (Beijing, Zhangjiakou) in the 2022 Winter Olympics. People can download, register and use the App in these places. Economic Daily reporters found that the APP has now added micro public bank (WeChat payment) digital RMB wallet and network business bank (Alipay) digital RMB wallet.

Reporters found in the experience that choose "Me" in the digital RMB (pilot version) APP, and then click "open or add digital wallet", people can see these two new wallets. After clicking and opening the digital wallet, individuals can see the new "digital RMB" option in WeChat payment and Alipay.

When consuming offline, consumers can scan the digital RMB payment code through WeChat or Alipay, or display the digital RMB payment code to the merchants, so that they can use digital RMB payment. When consuming online, consumers can also use digital RMB to pay. Consumers only need to click the "sub-wallet" function of digital RMB, and then the list of merchants such as Jingdong, Meituan, Takeout, Tmall Supermarket, Didi Taxi and SF Express will appear on the page. After selecting a merchant and following the prompts, people can use digital RMB payment in the corresponding merchant app. The reporter found that after adding the digital RMB sub-wallet to meituan, individuals can use digital RMB to pay for daily Meituan takeout orders. Some merchants also launch a red envelope discount of digital RMB to attract consumer experience.

Wang Pengbo, a senior analyst in the financial industry of Broadcom Consulting, said that the launch of the digital RMB (pilot version) app is a significant progress in the promotion of digital RMB. First of all, the threshold of the pilot has been lowered - consumers in the pilot area can open wallets online to participate in the pilot scheme, which can include more users and regions to participate in the test, and the scope of the test has been widened. Secondly, it also means that the digital RMB pilot has entered the "full test" stage. The wallets of the nine major operating institutions support opening at the same time, which shows that the application of digital RMB has become increasingly mature, and the test depth may be gradually strengthened in the future. In addition, app is also more user-friendly in the application interface function, and the user experience will be better, which lays a good foundation for more comprehensive pilot promotion in the future. With WeChat, Alipay and other access to digital RMB, the digital RMB pilot will cover more users. At the same time, the use of digital RMB will also increase the stickiness of users of third-party payment platforms and Internet platforms.

After the launch of digital RMB (pilot version) APP, the enthusiasm of consumers for experience is high. Meituan counterparts told reporters that after the launch of the digital RMB (pilot version) APP and the opening of the digital RMB payment channel in the Meituan takeout scene, the number of users adding digital RMB sub-wallets on the Meituan platform increased significantly. The number of users adding new sub-wallets on the APP within 3 days increased 18 times year-on-year on average. The daily average of digital RMB transaction orders and transaction amount increased by about 15% year-on-year. Meituan counterparts told reporters that the launch of digital RMB payment in takeout scenario will form a virtuous circle with digital RMB (pilot version) APP and jointly promote the accelerated popularization and promotion of digital RMB.

Data show that the opening speed of digital RMB personal wallet has accelerated significantly. According to the data published in Progress of Research & Development of E-CNY in China, more than 20.87 million personal wallets have been opened as of June 30, 2021. The latest data show that as of October 22, 2021, 140 million digital RMB personal wallets have been opened.
