According to the statistics of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, by the end of 2021, China had built and opened 1.425 million 5G base stations, and more than 650,000 new 5G base stations were built in 2021. At present, the total number of 5G base stations accounts for more than 60% of the world. 5G network has covered all urban areas of prefecture level cities, more than 98% of county areas and 80% of township areas. The number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people in China has reached 10.1, nearly double that at the end of 2020. The number of 5G mobile phone users has reached 355 million.
In 2021, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Tower completed a total of 184.9 billion Chinese yuan of 5G investment, accounting for 45.6% of the total telecom fixed assets investment, an increase of 8.9 percentage points over the previous year.
According to the data of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, in 2021, 5G will directly drive the total economic output of 1.3 trillion Chinese yuan and the economic added value of about 300 billion Chinese yuan, becoming an important engine to drive a new round of economic growth.
