Digital economy provides strong support for the Winter Olympics

Digitalization is a major feature of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. It is the support of digital technology that makes the training scheme of athletes more scientific, the live broadcasting of various events more high-definition, and the payment of Winter Olympic goods more convenient. With the support of a series of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, 5G, 8K and naked eye 3D, China presented a magnificent and wonderful opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games for the world.

On February 11, Wang Lei, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, at the special press conference on the construction of Beijing Global Digital Economy Benchmark City in 2022 Beijing Information Center introduced that Beijing proposed to build a global digital economy benchmark city and issued the implementation plan  in August 2021. The development of digital economy has further accelerated. In 2021, the added value of the whole city reached 1.6 trillion Chinese yuan, accounting for 40.4% of the regional GDP. In particular, the annual operating revenue of software and information service industry reached 2.2 trillion Chinese yuan. After breaking through the scale of one trillion Chinese yuan for the first time in 2018, it has doubled in only three years, accounting for 25.7% of the country, and the industrial scale ranks first among provinces and cities in China.

"The application scenario of digital economy can be said to be reflected in all aspects of the Winter Olympics." Wang Lei said. The opening ceremony of Beijing Winter Olympic Games is a master of digital technology. The progress of digital technology has opened a huge imagination space for the realization of creativity. The wonderful events and the operation guarantee of the venues all showed the scientific and technological achievements of Beijing's digital economy development in an all-round way.

For example, the robot chef of the Beijing Winter Olympics smart restaurant can realize the whole process automation service of 24-hour ordering, preparation and delivery. The Winter Olympic village room is equipped with a multifunctional smart bed for athletes. The "ultra-high speed 4K track camera system" in the national speed skating hall can track the position of athletes in real time and capture the competition picture flexibly.

In addition, for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the Beijing Winter Olympic Games used 8K video technology to broadcast the opening ceremony and important events. At the same time, taking this opportunity, it established the world's first city-level 8K broadcasting system, opened China's first provincial 8K channel, built 20 8K screens in public places in Beijing and deployed 200 8K large-size televisions.

Wang Lei said that the Beijing Winter Olympic Games is not only a sports event, but also a conference on the innovation and application of digital science and technology. A series of scientific and technological achievements will become an important and valuable Olympic heritage, which will be further promoted and applied after the game to benefit everyone.
