Technology enabled art is a highlight of the opening ceremony. Wang zhiou, visual effect director of the opening ceremony of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, said that the super large ground screen of the whole Bird-Nest stadium realized full LED image for the first time to replace the traditional ground screen projection, and the image quality reached 16K.
"From the moment of the performance, we hope to bring China's new audio-visual language to the people all over the world. The picture pixels of this opening ceremony are very high, which is a huge screen with a resolution of 14,000. Our requirement for the picture is 50 frames per second. The content data of the whole scene is huge. A program contains several terabytes digital contents. It can be imagined that it is a very large digital technology project." Wang zhiou said.
Today, the size of high-definition photos taken by mobile phones is about a few megabytes, and the size of a Blu-ray movie is about a few gigabytes.
"Every program of this opening ceremony is a number of terabytes, and its requirements for clarity and details are growing at a geometric level. This was an unprecedented challenge in the world before. The scientific and technological upgrading and aesthetic upgrading behind this have put forward higher standards." Wang zhiou said.
Wang dingfang said that the broadcasting system of the opening ceremony includes LED ground screen, ice waterfall screen, ice cube screen, north-south stand screen and other display screens. Among them, the whole ground screen LED is responsible for displaying four 8K playback materials, ice waterfall screen is responsible for displaying two 8K playback materials, and ice cube screen is responsible for displaying one 8K playback material. As the LED ground screen needs to meet the performance needs of the opening ceremony, the whole display system has its independent display components, display system, control system, structural system and electrical system. The operator can remotely control it through the computer in the control room, while the LED ground screen display system can display text, pictures, videos and other forms.
"This time, the LED ground screen display panel is equipped with an anti-glare, anti-moire and anti-skid atomization mask, which has a soft display screen and provides a pure video display screen without clutter and interference in the full focus section for camera broadcasting." Wang dingfang pointed out that the North-South stand screen has also reached the 12G SDI 4K resolution of real-time display OBS. At the same time, it can also display 4K promotional videos, which can be transmitted back to OBS in real time, so as to achieve the overall perfect cooperation with the signals of other display devices such as ground screen.
